This is going to be a quick 'catch up' blog because I'm in a rush today. Because I'm off for a screening this afternoon in a Leeds clinic as a cancer drugs trial volunteer.
Yes it's just a little scary, but I want to do more for Cancer Research and you only live once, so I'm determined to do as much as I can for this cause for the future of us all, especially our kids.
As you probably know if you follow me on twitter, I already run for Cancer Research UK and my aim is to raise £50,000, which means I'll be running for a very long time yet, because I'm only just past the half way mark.
Last weekend, the total was increased by £1,500 because of my corporate sponsors at Castle Comfort Stairlifts who hosted me for the weekend, transported me around, and placed the cash into my Just Giving account.
If I'm accepted as a drugs trial volunteer it will mean a change of lifestyle as far as my running and training is concerned because I have to be free from alcohol, medications, certain foods products (i.e. grapefruit, poppy seeds, quinine to mention only a few) plus I'm not permitted to train for 7 days before the drugs trials because of the adrenalin in my blood which could affect the results of the clinical trials. It's also suggested you abstain from sex (or use a sheath) because you could pass on the drugs via semen to your partner. That's not a problem then. lol
If you want to register for drugs trials (not just Cancer Drugs) please let me know, and I can refer you. If you then join, I get £25 to £100 fee, which is going to my JustGiving account too.
See here for list of locations available worldwide.
If you know anyone who wants a stairlift brochure, please email me.
NEWS UPDATE:
Been back for an hour and had a telephone call. I'm now officially a cancer drugs trial volunteer. I am also going to get paid to do it, and be waited on hand an foot whilst I'm locked away in a lab.
